A consent artefact is a structured, verifiable record of a patient's explicit permission for a specific health-data share — who is sharing what, with whom, for what purpose, and for how long. Under ABDM, every exchange of a patient's health information through the consent manager framework is backed by one.
In practice, this means a clinic can't push a patient's record to their ABHA health locker, or receive a record shared by another provider, without a consent artefact on file for that specific exchange. It's not a blanket agreement signed once — each share is its own recorded consent.
