An e-prescription is a prescription created and delivered digitally, with the drug, dose, frequency and duration stored as structured data — not a photograph of a handwritten slip, which looks digital but isn't structured underneath.
The distinction matters because structure is what enables everything downstream: an interaction check against the patient's other medicines, a refill reminder timed to when the course ends, or a pharmacy reading the prescription without deciphering handwriting. A scanned image of a paper prescription can be sent on WhatsApp, but it can't be searched, checked or reasoned about by software.
